At least in the whacky world of online movie reviews, it is! Citizen Kane has slipped from its perch as top of the pile, the greatest movie of all time by reviews. It held a coveted 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes since the inception of that review bellwether website. after a review from 80 years ago was added to the site.

However, now it has been toppled. A negative review of Citizen Kane was found in the Chicago Tribune from 7th May 1941. This was added to the website between February and April this year and now it has caused the long-time champ to slip down to 99%. The review of the Orson Welles classic reads:

“Citizen Kane Fails to Impress Critic as Greatest Ever Filmed.

It’s interesting. It’s different. In fact, it’s bizarre enough to become a museum piece. But its sacrifice of simplicity to eccentricity robs it of distinction and general entertainment value.”

What takes over as the top of the pile? What movie has deposed the 1941 classic as the greatest movie of all time according to Rotten Tomatoes?

Paddington 2. Yes, you read that right. The live-action sequel starring Hugh Bonneville, Hugh Grant, and Sally Hawkins has a 100% score on the website and is now, officially by math, analytics, jiggery-pokery, some kind of balance between audience and critic scores, and algorithms, the greatest movie of all time.

Paddington 2 is fun, charming, sweet, and funny. However, if you really want to know what the greatest movie of all time is, maybe look somewhere other than Rotten Tomatoes and trust your fellow Outposters instead? After all, you all have impeccable taste!
