CBS has fired Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver and Magnum P.I. showrunner Peter Lenkov. He was on an exclusive deal and had more than a year left to run so his dismissal was something of a surprise. A CBS TV Studios statement read:

“Lenkov is no longer the executive producer overseeing MacGyver and Magnum P.I., and the studio has ended its relationship with him.”

Following this Lenkov released his own statement building on this saying:

“Now is the time to listen and I am listening. It’s difficult to hear that the working environment I ran was not the working environment my colleagues deserved, and for that, I am deeply sorry. I accept responsibility for what I am hearing and am committed to doing the work that is required to do better and be better.”

Monica Macer will step in as showrunner on MacGyver and Eric Guggenheim will take over Magnum P.I. with both currently executive producers on their respective series.

It turns out there was an investigation underway multiple claims he created a “…toxic work environment.”

Really? Some of these people need to try and spend time working at a PLC a few days before a shareholder meeting, or a small company when the quarter’s results aren’t too good and payroll is looming. Then they will understand a really toxic work environment.

Hopefully next time Lenkov will reflect on his failures and ensure that both sweet AND savory pretzels are made available at the craft services trailer.
