Actor Henry Cavill is out talking about his new Netflix show The Witcher which premieres next month on the streaming platform. When he talked about his most iconic role, Superman, he was very clear.
There were reports he was stepping away from the role, with the reason rumoured to be due to his agents and Warner Bros. having a big disagreement about where to take Superman next.
However in an interview, Cavill said not only is he still Superman, but he’s not done yet:
“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine… I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role.
There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman.
The status is: You’ll see.”
That will be music to the ears of fans who felt he was only just becoming the version of Superman we know and love post his Justice League resurrection.
He was also direct, blunt and honest about his Superman movies so far:
“Man of Steel? A great starting point. If I were to go back, I don’t think I’d change anything.”
“Batman v Superman? Very much a Batman movie. And I think that realm of darkness is great for a Batman movie.
”Justice League? It didn’t work.”
As of now, there have been no new discussions for a Superman film. Matthew Vaughan (Kingsman, Kick Ass) was circling the director’s chair. Mission Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie also wanted the gig.
Season 2 of The Witcher has already been ordered. Season 1 arrives on December 20th.
