It looks like a Captain Planet movie might be in the works, starring Glen Powell as the blue-skinned, green-mullet superhero.
The movie has been talked about for the last 5 years, with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way Productions. According to Powell, the movie is still alive and just waiting for Warner Brothers and:
“…where all the superhero stuff kind of lands there.”
“I think those conversations will be happening shortly. I know DiCaprio is super passionate about it. I’m super passionate about it. I think it could be great…I want that one to work. I’d love to play that superhero.”
Powell also said that his take on Captain Planet would be:
“…subversive and fun and like dark and irreverent.”
Rumors are, he has also been ‘in talks’ with Marvel about becoming the new Cyclops in an X-Men reboot, but Powell has neither denied nor confirmed those rumors.
Captain Planet was an animated superhero series, originally created by Barbara Pyle and Ted Turner. It was first shown in 1990 – 1996, with the sequels series called The New Adventures of Captain Planet.
I don’t think I’ve seen it in the UK, so I had to look that video up. It’s an excellent idea, helping kids to see they can help out with pollution, but in this day and age, people are getting bored of superheroes and the environment. So this is a win-win!
