NATO wont like this!  The other NATO – the National Association Of Theatre Owners. They are fighting battle to prevent the Coronavirus impact on theatres not become permanent by resisting all moves to VOD for new releases on behalf of their members.

Now some recent social media posts by Candyman himself, Tony Todd, seems to hint that the Nia DaCosta revival movie may end up on VOD at the same time as in the cinema on 25th September.

Universal are the most troublesome studio for NATO as they have been spearheading this push for some time. They dropped their Trolls World Tour direct to VOD back at the beginning of the pandemic, along with cutting short the runs of a number of other releases.

The project was originally due next week but was pushed back to September in the great summer clearance.  A fan said:

“I wish they’d day-and-date this, I want to see/support it, but there’s no way I’m sitting a theater any time this year”

To which Todd cryptically replied:

“9-25-20 bamn”.

Todd then retweeted a question from a fan asking about a VOD release and seemed to avoid answering directly. As a mid-to-low budget movie it seems in the main sector that analysts have discussed as the most likely to go all VOD as a result of COVID19.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Vanessa Williams, Rebecca Spence and Todd star in the movie that is both a relaunch and sequel to the 1992 cult fan favourite.
