Yeah… OK, that headline sounds all kinds of wrong. Maybe we need to work on that.

Anyway, today comes news that Dwayne Johnson, his producing partner Dany Garcia and Universal Pictures are spinning up a reboot for The Scorpion King.

In 2001 Johnson played the villain in The Mummy Returns, in a scene that really showed off the limitations of early-2000’s CGI. In 2002 there was a spin-off prequel which told the back story of the character. The series then became a straight-to-video staple with most roles re-cast.

“You’re gonna need a bigger processor…”

Jonathan Herman will write. Johnson released a statement:

“The Scorpion King was my very first role ever on the silver screen and I’m honored and excited to reimagine and deliver this cool mythology to a whole new generation.”

A new actor will play the role but Johnson will appear for a cameo. The new reboot is said to be a contemporary version set in modern times. No word yet on which of Johnson’s regular directing partners may be considered for the big chair.
