Activision has officially announced the next installment in the long-running Call of Duty series. This is one of the alternate year Black Ops series. The full title will be… deep breath… Call Of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
The new game, obviously, will take place in the Cold War when NATO and the Warsaw Pact faced off against each other for decades. It was a war fought largely in the shadows by spies and satellites and reconnaissance planes, that occasionally exploded into conflict via proxy wars or poorly thought out, unsuccessful military actions such as the US in Vietnam or the Soviets in Afghanistan.
After a couple of weaker entries, particularly when the series stretched credibility setting itself in the near and far futures, it returned massively to form. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remains possibly the best FPS of all time. Here is the announcement trailer:
One line in that trailer sticks out when talking about Communist methods for waging a Cold War on a foreign enemy:
“Stage one – Demoralization… it takes fifteen to twenty years to demoralize a nation.”
So after the widespread introduction of social media we are about bang on schedule then?
