After the first trailer for Bullet Train showed something of an unexpected tone and looked like crazy fun, now we get to see a bit more. David Leitch’s new action thriller Bullet Train has a second trailer. What does the Sony Pictures adaptation of Kotaro Isaka’s novel Maria Beetle have in store for us on August 5th?
The blurb says:
“Trained killer Ladybug (Brad Pitt) wants to give up the life but is pulled back in by his handler (Sandra Bullock) in order to collect a briefcase on a bullet train heading from Tokyo to Kyoto.
Once onboard, he and the other competing assassins discover that their objectives are all connected.”
Cue lots of over the top action and a few laughs, as far as we can tell. Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny, Logan Lerman, Andrew Koji, Karen Fukuhara, Masi Oka, and Hiroyuki Sanada also star.
Bullet Train was initially developed by Antoine Fuqua, who remains as producer through his Fuqua Films banner. It was also originally intended to be a violent R-rated action film, but the project turned into a R-rated comedy during the development process.
It was announced in June 2020 that Sony Pictures hired David Leitch to take over as director with Brad Pitt being cast the following month.
Sandra Bullock joined the following year in February to replace Lady Gaga, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with House of Gucci.
Production for Bullet Train began in October 2020 in Los Angeles, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming started on November 16, 2020, and wrapped in March 2021. According to the film’s stunt coordinator, Greg Rementer, Pitt performed 95 percent of his stunts in the film.
