The movie got mixed reviews and fandom was accused of being “toxic” towards its star, but that didn’t stop Captain Marvel breaking $1.1b globally.  How much of that was driven by a pre-Endgame boost?  We’ll never know.

But Captain Marvel 2 was conspicuously absent from Marvel’s Phase IV announcements.  This followed the character’s appearances in Avengers Endgame seeming to have been truncated.  Remember, a few months earlier she was being set-up as the future leader of the Avengers and the new face of Marvel.  Feige had already gone on record saying she was central going forward.  And then…  nothing!

So what is going on?  Larson admits she doesn’t know when talking to Variety:

“No. I don’t really know what job I’m going to do next, which is very exciting. I don’t even know what my life’s gonna be!.”

She was also asked about the online backlash to the first film which Variety stated as including:

“…horrible comics fans who were rooting against it, because it had a woman lead character, and because of your politics…”

Brie responded that she didn’t take any notice:

“They did? Oh. I didn’t even know. I don’t have time for it, you know? The things that I have extra time to really look at are, like: Am I eating healthy food? Am I drinking water? Am I meditating? Have I called my mom today?…

I have genuinely never needed to look at the internet to explain to me who I am. I’m extremely committed to that in my day-to-day life!

There is really nothing more pleasurable to me than observing my mind. And interrogating myself. It is a thing I’ve done since I was a child. And I will do for as long as I can.”

She was also asked if it was true that several female members of the Avengers: Endgame cast approached Kevin Feige during production about an all-female team-up movie. Asked how serious those discussions were, she says:

“It is something… I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this.’

What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”

Larson can next be seen alongside Michael B. Jordan in the thriller Just Mercy.  Marvel Phase IV filming is already underway.
