My God, late summer and early fall has been a cinematic wasteland, hasn’t it? I don’t know why, but after two years with practically no big movie releases to theatres, I expected that there was an entire queue of movies ready to drop with weekends full of major releases. Instead, what did we get? Bullet Train and then… nothing. The last movie I saw at a theatre was Top Gun: Maverick, and I help run a movie website! Poor show, Hollywood. Will Black Adam tempt me back to overpriced popcorn and buckets of full-fat Coke?

Probably not, to be honest. However for many of you it looks like it will. Early projections are out for the Dwayne Johnson passion project. Black Adam is reportedly on track for a $65-70 million opening weekend starting on October 21st.

Amazingly, $68 million would make it Johnson’s best solo opening since The Mummy Returns back in 2001, if you can even class that as a Johnson movie? The Mummy Returns had a better opening weekend than Toy Story 2 and Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Simpler times.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts team-up Ticket to Paradise serves as counter programming and heads towards a $12-17 million debut. Halloween Ends arrives before that with a projection of $35-45 million even with a Peacock release.
