Jean Luc Picard’s assimilation by the Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation is one of the character’s biggest, most dramatic touchpoints. So it is no surprise to learn that this will form part of the story for season 2 of Star Trek: Picard and the Borg Queen will return.
When the Borg Queen returns, according to TrekMovie, she will have a familiar face.
Known from 24, The Rookie, Timeless and Bosch, Annie Wersching has been cast in the recurring role of the Queen for the series.
Alice Krige played the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact way back in 1996. 25 years ago. A quarter of a century? What? Jesus, we are so old!
She reprised the role in the season finale of Voyager, despite Susanna Thompson (Arrow) playing the role previously on the series.
When she was introduced in Star Trek: First Contact it changed the nature of the Borg to resemble a bee colony, rather than the non-hierarchical collective we had seen before. The character seemingly can die and be reborn. Or, like independent beehives, each one has a Queen. That makes a Borg Cube, or collection of cubes, a hive that operates as a separate node. And now my brain hurts.
