Fett Upward Swing – Spoilers
A few weeks ago, there was a lot of doom and gloom being voiced in fandom around The Book Of Boba Fett. Bacta tank-based flashbacks were thought to kill the pacing, and the slow-burn wasn’t satisfying Fett fans who tuned in simply to see their favorite character kick-ass.
Then suddenly everything changed as The Book Of Boba Fett went off on a detour with The Mandalorian, Bryce Dallas Howard smashed it out of the park, and fan treats were dropped like bombs from the return of Grogu, more Luke Skywalker, to Clone Wars favorite Cad Bane.
Digital Luke is held to be, while not perfect, possibly the best use of the technology we have seen so far. Interestingly, this was no longer achieved with Hamill like the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian was. In that show, the stand-in actor did the scene, then Hamill, and they blended the two performances digitally, with Hamill providing the voice which was then de-aged in an AI program.
Esquire has done a feature on the technology and how it was used differently this time around.
In The Book Of Boba Fett, Skywalker’s voice and appearance were completely digital with stunt double Scott Lang and performance artist Graham Hamilton on-set and deep fake artist Shamook applying digital Luke over the doubles.
Using Luke again, bringing in Cad Bane and leaving us with a cliffhanger over a big choice for Grogu has suddenly made this week’s finale of The Book Of Boba Fett a must-see event.
More Star Wars is on the way, as there is now rumored to be a May 2022 release locked for six episodes of Kenobi, and that will be followed up by Andor in the second half of the year. Speaking of Andor…
Andor Not Done
Actor Stellan Skarsgard gave an interview back home in Sweden and seemed to confirm that Andor has been renewed for a second season, and filming dates are set.
He said he will soon be busy on Dune Part II in the role of Baron Harkonnen, then he will be straight over to Lucasfilm to do more Andor:
“We start with Dune: Part 2’in July. And then in the Autumn, it’s time for the second season of the ‘Star Wars’ series ‘Andor’… I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time, so that it does not take too long between season one and season two.”
The first season of Andor is twelve episodes long, making it the longest single run on Star Wars television. It is said to be a more adult-themed espionage thriller set in the Star Wars universe during the rise of the Empire and the early stages of the galactic rebellion.
Diego Luna, Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Robert Emms, Genevieve O’Reilly, Fiona Shaw, and Kyle Soller will all star in the movie set before the events of Rogue One.
