Cast your minds back, fellow Outposters, to a time before lockdowns and theater closures due to the ‘rona? In March a movie starring Vin Diesel had just made it to the big screen. Critics didn’t really rate it, however circumstances surrounded it, then events over took it. It accidentally became one of the top grossing movies of the year as other releases were pulled from schedules around it.

Valiant comics adaption Bloodshot was then shifted to PVOD where it did business. So much business. With vast swathes of the world under some kind of pandemic restrictions and at home, hungry for content, it must have raked in some $$$. Now they have started to spin up a sequel.

Vin Diesel is coming back for more. DMG Entertainment founder and CEO Dan Mintz spoke to ComicBookResources.com and said there is momentum now:

“I think [Bloodshot] was very successful in that respect, a lot of people saw it and it did very well in the post-release rollout but you can’t use the same evaluation process, pre-COVID, to this.

[Are] Vin Diesel and all those people going to still continue? Yes, because it did so well and the response to it has been so well, it’s just that the response has been in a non-transparent environment, as opposed to a transparent environment like box office numbers.”

No news yet is writers Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer will return alongside director David S.F. Wilson. In today’s world the $45 million budget was tiny. It made $37 million in it’s truncated release window in theaters. Strong PVOD sales are presumed, and good follow-through to streamers and satellite / cable viewing figures, otherwise they wouldn’t be considering it.
