In an idea so simple, yet brilliant, it’s a wonder nobody really did it before. In Blood Red Sky Netflix is combining hijackers and mid-air action with… well, you will see.

Blood Red Sky is an English-German action-horror film from Rat Pack Filmproduktion. It will hit the streamer this summer after the standard COVID-related production delays. Formerly known as Transatlantic 473, it was directed and co-written by Peter Thorwarth, who previously released a short film version of the project in 2015 with a different cast and crew.

When terrorists take over an overnight transatlantic flight, a woman suffering from a mysterious illness (Peri Baumeister of The Last Kingdom) is forced into action. With her son’s life at risk, the woman must make a drastic choice that may change everything in order to save her son, her fellow passengers, and herself. Check out the trailer:

Let’s just say that if you ever wondered what happened before the opening of The Strain then Blood Red Sky could be for you. Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) plays the leader of the hijackers.

Netflix’s 2021 slate is impressive in scope and scale. They have a plan to release more than one new production every week. There are 72 in all currently rolling out. Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead was one of these.

Highlights to come include Red Notice, starring Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and Ryan Reynolds. Western The Harder They Fall will star Regina King, Idris Elba, and Lovecraft County breakout Jonathan Majors. Adams’ The Woman in The Window, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick … Boom! and the loaded Don’t Look Up, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, Timothee Chalamet, Kid Cudi, and Meryl Streep all follow.

Blood Red Sky will premier on your own TV on July 23.
