Filmmaker Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) has dropped out of directing Blade for Marvel. The latest entry in the MCU, set firmly in the supernatural realm of the MCU that was only hinted at in Eternals, was set for filming this November in Atlanta. That now must be in doubt.

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be half-immortal Daywalker, taking on the role after Wesley Snipes made the character famous with three movies that pretty much led the first wave of the renaissance in superhero cinema. Marvel have released a statement on the loss of the director:

“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”

From the The Hollywood Reporter comes the news that writer Beau DeMayo remains as writer after overseeing several re-writes, but the search is already underway for a new director with no name in the frame as yet.

Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre co-star and the cast will stay assembled. So far the November 3rd 2023 release is holding, so they are going to have to move at super-speed on this one.
