Outposter Eggy Weggs hits us up again, this time with a potential scoop about Black Panther 2 or, to give it its correct title – Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. According to a report he picked up from The Direct the MCU is going to continue its push for representation in this movie. The report comes from a scooper over there so, at this point, we should probably give it one of these…
Spider-Man: No Way Home is smashing it at the box office and Hawkeye was the most fun out of all their shows with some pretty key reveals in both. Next year Marvel see if they can follow up their other billion-dollar installment, Black Panther, with something that performs as well.
That movie seemed to capture the zeitgeist of that time, being sold not just as a superhero movie but as an important movie. Being the first superhero movie with a largely black cast, black leads, black writers, and a black director with heavy representation on the crew, it was sold not just as an MCU entry, but as a cultural event. It even got an Oscar nod.
Can they repeat the same trick this time around? If so, that may explain this news.
Alongside dealing with T’Challa’s death and, according to rumors, introducing the Atlanteans in the form of Namor (The Submariner) and his kingdom, this movie says that one of the central characters will be revealed as LGBTQ+.
According to the unconfirmed scoop, Danai Gurira’s Okoye:
“…will have a same-sex relationship with another Dora Milaje in the film.”
There was a push from the usual Twitter mobs for more representation in Marvel movies. Eternals then featured the first openly gay super-powered character in the MCU.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is out on November 11, 2022.
