First of all: Happy 6/9! Aka Bill and Ted’s Day!
One of the most iconic cinematic duos is facing the music in the trailer for their new movie… Bill and Ted Face the Music aka middle age. The plot seems to be that even these boneheads learn that middle age comes at you like a bitch, and the expectations you had/have for your life, don’t always work out.
Will the San Dimas musicians rock on? Will the Grimm Reaper finally get his boys? Will Rufus make his triumphant return? Oh, wait. George Carlin died. Dommit!
Look, the two movies were stupid. They were stupid teenage comedies about two morons who time travel that takes a lot from Doctor Who, with the phone booth as the time machine. The original movies were like a John Hughes movie met Doctor Who whole filmed in Los Angeles. But… they had heart to them, and I genuinely really enjoyed them as a kid (and a teenager), and I might even like them more than Star Trek (movies and television show) because they brought comedy to sci-fi (which I hadn’t seen at the time).
The movie stars Keanu Reeves, Alex Winters, and Bill Sadler (who I met at a Roswell fan event, super nice dude) from the original cast with Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as the pair’s daughters (in the original movies they had sons); and Jayma Mays and Erinn Hayes as Princess Joanna and Princess Elizabeth respectively (aka the princesses they met in Excellent Adventure, who are their wives? Fun fact looking at the casts for the last movies these two characters have never been played by the same people throughout their history in this “franchise.”). Kid Cudi (is that a name?) plays himself. That’s weird.
Rounding out the cast is Jillian Bell (Brittany Runs A Marathon if you have a chance to watch it), Beck Bennett, Anthony Carrigan (so good as Victor Zsasz! So good! He’s just… so good! In a shitty show he was so good on Gotham), and Holland Taylor.
Bill & Ted Face the Music August 21st 2020.
