After years in development hell, mostly caused by the Disney acquisition of Fox and then the riddle of how you deal with Deadpool in the MCU without ruining Deadpool, Deadpool 3 is finally dated.

Deadpool 3 is set for a September 6th 2024 release, in the spot between Marvel’s fifth and sixth phases of the MCU. Deadpool 3 is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick from a previous draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. Kevin Feige has already gone on record as saying they have no desire to tone down Deadpool and affect his USP in order to please the Disney brand.

This news was made official late yesterday by actor Ryan Reynolds in a new video released through his social media channels. In it there was also some big casting news.

Hugh Jackman will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. How this will be achieved remains to be seen. Multiverse shenanigans will abound, no doubt. Possibly this will involve Cable. Logan died in the near future set last instalment.

Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Real Steel) will direct and had this to say:

“I want to take a minute to thank ‘Stranger Things’ for training me to keep my big mouth shut. This news has been burning a hole in my lips for weeks now.”

The R-rated “Merc With The Mouth” will remain R-rated as the previous two films had a combined worldwide gross of over $1.5 billion and did huge numbers on home formats. Disney had to decide if they liked appealing to kids more than money… well, we know the answer.
