Another potential entry for the category of “Destroying things we all loved” would be a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, if they get it wrong.
The first Beverly Hills Cop was a classic, introducing many people to Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley. The foul-mouthed, wisecracking Detroit cop would bend the rules to get justice. The second movie wasn’t as good, and the third one was just plain bad.
As we all know, Hollywood dare not risk anything on original IPs, so it was only a matter of time before Axel was back in another Beverly Hills Cop movie. Eddie Murphy returns for this new movie. This time he is being joined by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylor Paige. Netflix is producing and has given it the full title of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Brilliant!
The director is Mark Molloy, best known for his adverts for Go Daddy, Nissan, and Apple. Another first-time director, who is going to be someone easy to control and tell what to do. Rumor has it that Murphy would only return if the script was good enough. Something he learned from Norbit and Nutter Professor 2: Meet the Klumps.
It will be interesting to see if this movie is set in Beverly Hills again, or if they return to Detroit.
