Clearly the suits have been listening to you, your wants, needs and entertainment desires because they have decided what you covet above all else is this. A Sex And The City revival!
A limited revival will appear on HBO Max. The original cast members will partially return as Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are all back as both stars and producers. Kim Cattrall has decided she has better things to do.
The original series followed a set of professional women in New York as they tried to navigate both careers and their romantic lives while shopping for shoes, as far as I could tell. It was part of the post-Spice Girls, late 1990’s “Girl Power” wave.
It ended up undermining itself as a franchise when, at the turn of the last decade as “Girl Power” gave way to the dawn of woke progressivism, it was suddenly labelled as outdated. The sequel movie Sex And The City 2 was targeted by the Guardian, among others, as borderline racist and the entire concept of women looking for a man was labelled as “problematic”. With a 16% score on Rotten Tomatoes for the sequel, suddenly it seemed like a show out of time.
The revival will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) as they navigate love and friendship in their fifties.
Parker posted the first trailer for the revival on social media today along with various hashtags.
The show will feature ten half-hour episodes. The original show ran from 1998 to 2004 on HBO. This is one of several HBO Max revivals as they really push hard on new content, seemingly in an effort to avoid the Disney+ trap. True Blood and Gossip Girl are also in the works.
I can barely contain my excitement.
