Michael Bay was ready to roll on Songbird as soon as the pandemic hit. He was always planning on coming out of the gates storming with a timely tale. He set up the picture at Invisible Narratives with Catchlight Studios. No plot was known at the time, other than that it takes place in a world where a pandemic has passed but local flare-ups and spikes mean life has not returned to normal, and rolling lockdowns are part of the every day.

Now comes the news that Riverdale lead K.J. Apa has been cast as one of the leads. Sofia Carson (Feel the Beat) will play the other lead.

It will be set two years in the future during a pandemic lockdown. It will be a love story between motorbike courier Nico (Apa) and Sara (Carson), a young artist. Nico has a rare immunity to the disease and their romance must overcome:

“…martial law, murderous vigilantes and a powerful, well connected family, helmed by a matriarch who will stop at nothing to protect her family and maintain her way of life.”

The pair will be supported by Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, Craig Robinson, Jenna Ortega, Paul Walter Hauser and Peter Stormare. Shotting begins in LA the moment everything opens up.

Adam Mason (Into the Dark) directs a Simon Boyes script with Bay producing alongside Adam Goodman and Eben Davidson.
