Warner Bros. Entertainment has released the trailer for their new animated feature – Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham.
Based on the comic of the same name by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey, The Doom That Came to Gotham re-imagines Batman in a Lovecraftian style 1920s.
Featuring unique spins on some of Batman’s most popular foes, including Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, and more. We’ll once again see Batman needing all his skills as he faces a series of otherworldly enemies drawn on by a demonic cult. Sounds like Washington DC.
The movie has a wide cast of characters, with Batman being voiced by Grimm star David Giuntoli and Green Arrow being voiced by Christopher Gorham. Plenty of veteran voice actors will appear, including John DiMaggio as James Gordon, Jeffrey Combs as Kirk Langstrom, and Jason Marsden as both Dick Grayson and a young Bruce Wayne.
The Doom That Came to Gotham is heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. The story’s name is even a reference to Lovecraft’s 1920 short story The Doom That Came to Sarnath.
Alongside The Doom That Came to Gotham, DC is continuing the Tomorrowverse continuity, which includes many recent animated DC films. Both the upcoming Justice League: Warworld and a Legion of Super-Heroes movie will fall into the same Tomorrowverse.
I thoroughly enjoy the animated side of DC and I find it remarkable that the live-action department can’t get their act together and follow suit.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham will officially be released on digital, 4K, and Blu-ray on March 28, 2023.
