Bad Boys 4 is officially happening. The cliffhanger from Bad Boys 3 will be resolved, as Will Smith continues his post-slap renaissance and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah move on from the Batgirl cancellation.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are returning, and announced the project by posting a video to social media.

Sony Pictures has subsequently confirmed that the sequel is now in early pre-production. The script will be written by Chris Bremner. Bad Boys For Life squeaked out just before the pandemic shutters came crashing down in 2020 and was the last big blockbuster to land before lockdowns. As a result it was the top grossing movie of 2020 for most of the year. A $90 million budget pulled in a $426.5 million gross worldwide, putting it well into profit.
Unbelievably, it is now 28 years since we first saw detectives Burnett and Lowry on the screen in Bad Boys. Anyone who just finished school when that movie came out is now middle aged and heading for retirement. That movie really announced Michael Bay’s arrival from the world of television adverts, after he was hand-picked by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer.
His trademark colors, smash cuts, slo-mo, and frenetic, kintetic and hyper-stylized action is on full display and it remains an exceptional action movie that positively reeks of the 1990s in that excellent way. The Rock and Armageddon are the same. Con Air, not one of his, takes the same style. Damn, I miss the 90s!
The sequel from 2003 was mocked for its over the top violence and action, but it remains hilariously good fun.
This new sequel will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Smith, Doug Belgrad. Chad Oman. Lawrence, James Lassiter, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman and Jon Mone are executive producers.
