Both major comics brands are piling in on the multiverse. DC and Warner Bros. are seemingly using it to fix their wonky DCEU after Justice League killed it, inconveniently right around the same time Wonder Woman and Aquaman looked like saving it. This left DC in something of a conundrum.
Marvel are also going all in, with a WandaVision, Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 triple punch that will open the door to different versions of characters from the earlier versions of franchises.
Fascinating news comes from the world of DC today though. Ezra Miller’s The Flash will not only bring back a prior version or two of Batman in the form of both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, now it appears that he will encounter at least one legacy character from the DC past that may surprise you.
None other than Keanu Reeves as John Constantine. Noted comic movie tipster Daniel Richtman claims the star of John Wick, in the middle of a career renaissance, is in talks for a cameo. Likely to be a very short appearance.
The live-action 2005 Constantine movie has gained a cult following as people revisit it and find a lot to like. Chief among these is Peter Stormare’s deliciously sleazy appearance in the climax as the devil himself. Stormare claims that a sequel is happening, and both Reeves and director Francis Lawrence have expressed an interest. Could this be a back door re-introduction to the world of John Constantine and his link to the DCEU?
Brandon Routh’s return as Superman may have been already achieved in the CW version of Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event, but that still leaves Clooney’s Batman lurking out there, waiting for the phone to ring.
