In 2019 the movie Yesterday came out. It was a story about a musician, Jack Malik, played by Himesh Patel. Jack wakes up after a worldwide black-out and discovers he is the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles. He starts to perform the songs of the Fab Four and gains worldwide fame.

The movie did have Ana De Armas cast in it as one of Jack’s love interests called Roxane. At one point in the movie, Jack was going to serenade her with his rendition of the song Something. The scenes ended up on the cutting room floor before the movie was released.

As a result of the actress being cut from the movie, two fans have filed a federal class-action lawsuit alleging they were tricked into watching the movie on Amazon Prime before finding out that the actress was not in the final cut.

The lawsuit says:

“Because consumers were promised a movie with Ana De Armas by the trailer for Yesterday, but did not receive a movie with any appearance of Ana de Armas at all, such consumers were not provided with any value for their rental or purchase.”

The director of Yesterday, Richard Curtis, had explained that the audiences didn’t like the idea of Jack’s character moving away from his primary love interest, played by Lily James. He said:

“That was a very traumatic cut, because she was brilliant in it. I mean really radiant. You know, it’s one of those things where it’s some of our favourite scenes from the film, but we had to cut them for the sake of the whole.”

There had been a similar case with the movie Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. The trailer showed it as a high-speed action movie. Instead, it was a slow-paced violent drama. The lawsuit filed against Drive was ultimately dismissed.

We will let you know how this one turns out since, if the fans win, there’s a lot of Star Wars fans ready and waiting to take Disney to court.
