Jai Courtney, Dane DeHaan, Betty Gilpin, Nick Hargrove, Kyle Bradley Davis, Derek Hinkey, Saura Lightfoot Leon, Preston Mota, Shawnee Pourier, Joe Tippett, and Shea Whigham have all joined the cast of American Primeval. The six episode Netflix series will be led by Taylor Kitsch. According to the blurb, it is:
“…a raw, adventurous exploration of the birth of the American West. The violent collisions of cultures, religions and communities as men and women fight and die for control of this untamed wilderness – for a land they truly believe is their destiny.”
The lead character is a man called Isaac. He is described as a traumatized man struggling to overcome his demons. Courtney will play a trapper, bounty hunter, and all round not very nice guy.
DeHaan will portray a Mormon joining other settlers in Utah and Gilpin a woman seeking a guide to head West with her and her son. Whigham will play the wise, grizzled old pro runs a trading post.
There will be a Mormon militia and a renegade group of Crow warriors known as the Wolf Clan arrayed against them.
Interest is peaked by the news that Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) is set to direct. Mark L. Smith (The Midnight Sky, The Revenant, Overlord) will write and executive produce alongside Berg, with Eric Newman (The Watcher, Narcos) also in for points.
