Jack Reacher is back, and this time he’s on Amazon. After two Tom Cruise outings, one good and one not so much, the character is having a reboot and heading to streaming as Reacher. It gets a trailer.
One thing the movies were always mocked for was the casting of dark-haired and diminutive Cruise as a character who is a 6 feet 5 inches tall, blonde, man-mountain in the novels. This time around they have addressed this by casting Alan Ritchson in the role.
The Titans and Smallville actor is joined by Malcolm Goodwin, Willa Fitzgerald, Chris Webster, Hugh Thompson, Maria Sten, Harvey Guillén, Kristin Kreuk, Currie Graham, Marc Bendavid, Willie C. Carpenter, Maxwell Jenkins, and Bruce McGill.
The Jack Reacher character is an ex-military policeman and one of the top investigators to ever be among the ranks of the MPs, holding the rank of Major. After leaving the army he is now a drifter, living an austere lifestyle, after deciding he is not ready to settle down following a highly mobile life in the army. On his travels across the US he invariably runs into trouble in small-town USA, like a one-man A-Team meets Bruce Banner from The Incredible Hulk TV show, crossed with Colombo. Alternatively, elements of his past military life reach out to him as past cases intrude on his current life.
Nick Santora (Prison Break) serves as showrunner and the first series will adapt the first book Killing Floor, allowing it more time to breathe than a movie adaption.
Here’s the trailer.
Reacher premieres on Amazon Prime on February 4th. Now toughen up Jack Ryan a bit and we could have a two for two Amazon-based sessions of proper Man TV – television shows for guys who just want to crack open a beer and watch people shoot each other for a couple of hours.
