Amazon Prime has set the date of April 8th for the release of All The Old Knives. This is very exciting, as the 2015 book it is based on is a masterful espionage tale. This is said to be an R-rated movie, and it stars Chris Pine, Thandiwe Newton, Laurence Fishburne, and Jonathan Pryce in the lead roles.
In the book, there is an ongoing investigation into a leak at the CIA that has caused over 100 deaths. Veteran CIA agent Henry Pelham (Pine) was in the Vienna office when it happened, and he has been tasked with running down the mole. While on this assignment in the US he takes a break from his investigation and catches up with his ex-colleague and ex-lover Celia Harrison (Newton), who has now retired from the CIA and is living in Monterrey, California.
As they reminisce over dinner, recounting their tales of life as CIA operatives in flashback, it becomes clear that they are locked in a battle of wits with each other that ebbs and flows over the course of the dinner.
The book is phenomenal. Don’t mess this up Hollywood!

The good news is that Steinhauer penned the screenplay himself. The second bit of good news is that Danish filmmaker Janus Metz directs, so hopefully, some of his sensibilities underpin the screenplay and it doesn’t get dragged into melodrama or action for the sake of action.
All The Old Knives will launch simultaneously in cinemas and on the streaming platform from the 8th of April.
