George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984, is slowly becoming an educational piece of work it seems. The only thing I haven’t seen yet is Room 101, although TikTok comes close.

The story has been told a few times on film, but there is a rework in the mix, but with a modern twist. Can you guess what it is?

It would be the same cautionary story about the totalitarian government, but through the eyes of Julia, Winston Smith’s covertly rebellious lover from the original 1984 novel. Obviously, the main character, Winston, didn’t tell the story well enough, so it seems that we all need that female perspective.

At the moment, the idea is just a novel, but there is already a lot of interest in making it into a movie or TV series. Author Sandra Newman is going to be writing the novel, with the approval from George Orwell’s estate. The new 1984 novel will simply be called Julia.

Screen rights for the novel won’t be obtained for several months after production of the novel, which means we can all rest easy for a little while, but in this day and age, it won’t be long before someone in Hollywood thinks this is a great idea and churn it out.

Remember what Orwell said in the original novel:

“Big Brother is Watching You.”

It’s Big Sister now George.
