Tom Hanks always plays a nice man, like in The Terminal, just a nice man trapped in an airport. Well, you’re about to meet Otto.
Hanks looks like he’s going to be actually acting in A Man Named Otto, as in being an old crank. Watching this trailer is like watching our livestream on a Sunday.
The movie stars Hanks, Rachel Keller, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Cameron Britton, Kailey Hyman, Lavel Schley, and more. The screenplay is by David Magee, based on the novel by Fredik Backman. Magee is known for movies like Life of Pi, Finding Neverland and Mary Poppins Returns.
A Man Called Otto is directed by Marc Foster, known for Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, World War Z, Machine Gun Preacher, and Quantum of Solace. Nice to see a director with a bit of a portfolio these days.
The official synopsis of the movie is:
“Based on the comical and moving #1 New York Times bestseller, A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower who is very set in his ways. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside-down. Experience a funny, heartwarming story about how some families come from the most unexpected places.”
It looks like it could be fun and nice to see Hanks playing something a little different. A Man Called Otto is due for release in LA and New York 25th Dec and then the rest of the world 13th Jan 2023.
