I’m not hugely into music, but I know what I like! One of those bands I love is the Gorillaz. I have a few of their albums and I listen to them a lot.

It seems that Netflix are fans as well, since they are developing an animated movie with the frontman, Damon Albarn.  In a recent interview with Albarn for Apple Music, he confirmed the project was moving forward.

So far Netflix hasn’t officially announced anything, but Albarn said:

“I’m at Netflix because we’re making a full-length Gorillaz film with Netflix. We’re having a writing session in Malibu this afternoon. It’s really exciting to do that. It’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. It’s been through so many incarnations…this Gorillaz doing a movie. Honestly.”

The band was originally created in 1998, by Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The animated characters and the fictional universe they live in is portrayed through their music. The style and animation of the music videos was always something pretty out there, from simple 2D drawings to complex 3D CGI.

The band was made up of 2-D (vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards, vocals), and Russel Hobbs (drums).

Albarn came to fame in the Brit-Pop band Blur, but wanted to push musical concepts more and more, which he was able to do, behind the scenes with the band. Blur famously had a running feud with the other big Brit-Pop band Oasis for many years.

I always liked how Albarn pushed music to the limits, where I felt like the Gallagher’s just repeated the same five chords with different words, even today. I’m not saying Oasis didn’t create some great songs, but the Gorillaz really took music to different areas.

A great example of Albarn and his music is from the movie Ravenous, which he did the soundtrack for. I saw this movie years ago and the music really stayed with me. The soundtrack is amazing and it’s a decent movie, if you haven’t seen it.

Are you a fan of Gorillaz? Would you watch a movie of their musical exploits?
